Call for Submissions to the 10th Boston Turkish Documentary and Short Film Competition
Application deadline for the annual Documentary and Short Film Competition is September 1, 2015. The competition is open to all filmmakers from Turkey and abroad, and there is no limitation for subject themes and duration. However, applicant films have to be either in English or with English subtitles, and should be filmed within the last two years of the date of competition (2013). Each director can enter the competition with only one film per category. The competition’s film screening program consists of competition and non-competition sections.
The Competition is the first award-granting Turkish documentary and short film competition in North America, and has been organized annually since 2006. The competition jury is comprised of distinguished filmmakers such as Peter Keough, film critic; Carter Long, Film Curator of Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; and Jeremy Rossen, Curator of Harvard Film Archive.
The competition finalists will be screened at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Boston University and Goethe-Institut from November 6th thru 14th, 2015. The audience will also have the opportunity to vote for their favorite “Best Documentary” and “Best Short Film” for the audience awards. The competition jury may also decide to give special mentions to selected film(s). Award-winning films of the competition will be rescreened at the 15th Boston Turkish Film Festival in 2016.
Organizers of the competition said they were deeply honored and excited to initiate a film competition tradition of Turkish films in the United States and continue this successfully for a decade. They added that they were delighted to be able to open a window for filmmakers from Turkey to the United States, inviting all filmmakers to participate in the competition.
