“You truly have been a Knight of the British Realm, a true Commonwealth Australian, a dual citizen of England and America, and an international media mongul with ownership of the Wall Street Journal and FoxNews!” I blurted to retired Chairman Rupert Murdoch in an unexpected hallway confrontation. He was on the way to the restroom at his Manhattan Headquarters where I was attending a meeting. “Now that you are free of major responsibilities don’t you think it’s time to rethink your antagonism toward Islamic Turks because of the tens of thousands of Australian troops lost at Gallipoli?”, but before he could answer I shouted: “The Turks did not invade Australia and slaughter your troops. It was the Australians who invaded Turkey and slaughtered those defending their country! You have no right to be angry at Turkey today!” He gasped. “I hope your sons who now run your media empire will update their thinking that England and Ireland may split from the European Union which is expanding eastward across the Mediterranean toward a Parliamentary Union with North Africa!” He entered the restroom to avoid me. “You are living mentally in the 19th Century while the world is heading toward the 22nd Century!” I yelled through the restroom door. “Your Wall Street Journal portrayed all the traditional Abrahamic religions as fostering radical violence, and I wonder how an intelligent American citizen as yourself can view Orthodox Jews and American Catholic Christians and fundamentalists as ‘enemies of the state’’. That is secularism run wild!” There was no response. I quickly exited the building, and when I played my tape recorder I realized Murdoch had not uttered one word.
Mel Gibson & Schwarzenneger
“With only five-hundred soldiers Spanish Conquistadore Hernando Cortez conquered the mighty Aztec Empire by first taking captive the ruling Sun-God Montezuma!” actor/movie-maker Mel Gibson told me from California: “Since Montezuma controlled the Aztec generals they were paralyzed into inaction when Montezuma basically ordered them to stand down!” Gibson had made the movie “Apocalypto” which vividly portrayed the thousands of native American Indians sacrificed on the pyramids which tourists admire today.
Gibson put on the phone former actor/strongman Governor Arnold Schwarzenneger who had been a tank commander in the Austrian Army and a personal friend of U.N.Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim, and I asked him: “As a Symbol of macho-man masculinity you made it a campaign practice to call your political opponents ‘girlie boys’ or ‘sissy men’ yet you had signed into California law legislation which enabled students in public schools to choose their own gender, and that boys can declare themselves girls and wear dresses?”
Arnold explained: “We live in a new world where individuals can decide what he or she is in what becomes self-realization. We can create who and what we are and this becomes the full expression of freedom, liberty, and choice. That is what true socialist love is all about!” I responded to this double-talk by telling him that what he just said was expressed by the German philosopher Freidrich Nietzsche who had a profound influence in both America and Nazi Germany.
Arnold testily responded to me: “that in Europe it is no longer against the dress code for Italian boys to where dresses and that here in America ‘it is not against the law for me to where a dress’” I took this as a personal insult and responded: “In the name of ‘freedom of political speech’ the U.S, Supreme Court had ruled that it is legal to burn the American Flag as a means of protest. That doesn’t make it right!” I then hung up.
An American tourist went to Moscow and boasted that in America he could publicly call the president a jerk, moron, and idiot without getting arrested. We have freedom of speech!” The Russian responded: “We too have freedom of speech. We can call the American president a jerk, moron, and idiot without getting arrested!”
