“Mikhail Gorbachev must be praised for presiding over the dissolution of the Soviet Union without there being a Russian civil war or international catastrophe!” CNN founder Ted Turner told him at a U.S.Chamber of Commerce national meeting years ago. “But now that the Cold War is over who will the giant American military machine fight?” Gorbachev retorted to Defense Secretary Colin Powell who also was at the conference. “I don’t know whether I should laugh or cry?” Gorbachev later wryly commented when asked about Turner’s comment.
Turner had pledged one billion dollars to the United Nations Foundation Fund dedicated to eventually halving world population to reduced human carbon dioxide emissions, and he Presided over the U.N.Millennium Conference of World Religious leaders in year 2000 where I briefly met Dr. Bhupendra Kumar Modi who had authored “Hinduism – the Universal Truth.”
A leading international industrialist and political activist Dr. Modi recently received the Ambassador For Peace Award in London from the Global Citizens Forum based in Singapore. “We must facilitate the creation of a global society without the boundaries of religion and geography!”” says Dr. Modi who writes: “Though our paths are different our destinations are different our destinations are the same!”
“We need more women in politics and I suggest men be banned from elected political office for the next 100 years!” Turner said tongue-in-cheek at the U.N. International Womens Earth & Climate Summit in New York. “Men can do everything else!”Turner suggested, “And fossil fuels must go!” Turner later declared at an Aspen Summit of renewable energy corporations. The wide-ranging Turner had sponsored games for Soviet atheletes after President Carter cancelled American participation in the 1980 Moscow Olympics and had opened Buffalo Meat outlets in Manhattan supplied from his bison ranch in Montana.
“Under capitalism man exploits man!” my Confucius friend said, “And under socialism just the opposite is true! The only difference is the spelling!”
